| Taking the 'green' agenda to new heights |
One of STILL UK’s Field Service Engineers, Derek Hutchinson has been working hard to achieve green initiatives within his local community. Derek has been campaigning since 2004 and has set up a forum to save the local field/recreation ground from having a main road built through it. The ultimate goal was to have the field put into a trust. HRH Prince William announced the ‘QEII FIT’ initiative which was to save as many recreation fields as possible so that they could be put into trust and given Royal protection. On the 7th July 2010, Derek’s hard work and dedication was recognised and the recreation ground was finally protected under QEII FIT. The hard work did not stop here. Derek joined forces with the ‘Fields in Trust’ protection agency to gain further support. Following copious amounts of dedication and endless correspondence, Derek now has 100% support from all councillors within 28 wards across Sheffield. The field is now a ‘QEII field’ and will be protected for generations to come. On June 23rd 2012 a ceremony was held for the communities to celebrate their fantastic achievements. The hard work goes on… In the not too distant future, Derek Hutchinson will be meeting with the local forestry ranger to look at planting a Royal Oak that they have received as part of the QEII initiative. “We will be looking at planting many more trees before Christmas to enhance not only the air quality of the area but to also give the field some visual enhancement as well,” commented Derek. At STILL we are committed to reducing our carbon footprint with our world class, environmentally-friendly products. It is clear to see that our employees share the same values and commitment to the environment in every aspect of their lives.
